Sunroof blind refurbishing or replacement.

Featured Replies

Hi,
I got a nicely spec'ed 2008 Roomster for cheap recently.
It needed a fair amount of wiring sorted - hence the cheap.
Also some basic service items including rear calipers, discs etc.

Today I decided to take the roof blinds out.
Both have material detached from the rails.
One was jammed.

The part number is 5j7861397.

I thought the material was originally glued to the spring, but not sure now...
Perhaps it just needs reinstalling and feeding back in properly?
Any advice welcome!

Hi,

I'm afraid I don't have anything to add, but do have a couple of questions.

Did you get anywhere with these?
Was the headliner easy to remove without damaging?
I am facing a similar issue and wondering if it's repairable.

Hey,

It is repairable in theory but the sprung metal and fabric need to be laid out flat on some sort of jig and bonded again.
I didn't have the time or confidence that it would be a successful fix, and it would be quite difficult overall.

I did get to untangle it and when re-installed made sure the blind was fully extended, then put some foam on the slider so it won't close again (which will cause it to get tangled again).

The process of removing headliner was really easy. Remove any plastic handles, light fixtures, visors, rear seatbelt surround etc.
Partly remove rubber door seals from top and side.

Undo any screws in the plastic panels and start teasing them of (I say tease, more carefully yanking).
They only need to be partly removed at the top to free up headliner.

The headliner should be fairly free a this stage.
Then shove if forward, releasing a lip from the rear of sunroof.
The pull it back to release lip at front of sunroof.

In hindsight it may be best to remove rear side panels completely but it was quicker this way.

Before refitting make sure the cables for lights etc are positioned so you can feed them back through the holes.

I also noticed parts fabric was not fully glued on the other side or had become loose, just at the rear.
Sorted with some carpet tape.
