Steering angle sensor fault

Featured Replies

Hi all! I bought my 2012 plate Octavia a couple of years ago and the cruise control has never worked. I bought it from quite a way away and when I realised the issue I wasn’t really bothered as just needed a work horse just let it be.

I tried cleaning the contacts previously to no avail and then stopped investigating. I recently had a scan done by the RAC after a misfire issue and noticed on the printout that I have a P1698 steering angle sensor faulty signal return.

Could that be the cause of my cruise control issues? No other known issues and don’t know how long that code would have been showing for with no issues with steering etc.

Any DIY fixes?

Thanks in advance!

Might be worth getting it scanned with VCDS. It may well pick up further info on the fault code that the RAC scanner has missed. I have read it could be the switch itself/wiring or problems within the steering wheel electronics.

Thanks mate, I’ll see if I can find somebody with VCDS to try to narrow it down. I did originally just think about getting the stalk changed (not in my comfort zone with the wheel and clock spring etc so would have to get a garage on the case) but then when I saw the steering angle sensor fault o wondered whether that could have anything to do with it.

Thanks for the reply!
