Amundsen to Columbus

Featured Replies

After failing to find any aftermarket Head Units guaranteed to work factory options, I had a thought. I believe that the Columbus Head Unit was an option if you wanted to upgrade from an Amundsen.

I have a 2018 Karoq with the MIB 2 High system . Is it as simple as buying a 9.2" Screen unit and swapping over. (are the connections the same ?) Or is it a case of buying the radio glovebox unit as well. Please advise.

No the screen is only that, a screen. The "intelligence" is in the glovebox unit.

I am aware of that but will the cables from the glovebox unit click into the Columbus Screen and will it work. Hope somebody knows.

I recently swapped my MIB2 Amundsen for a Columbus.

Yes, you will need both the screen and the glovebox unit.

You will need to modify the display Farka connector on both ends as they are keyed and the new screen uses a different key. Trimming the connector with a sharp knife is easy enough. The other connectors/wiring will fit without modification.

After fitting, you will need to remove component protection, add FEC/SWAP entitlements, upload the correct dataset and also rode the new glovebox unit to suit your car.

If you go down the unofficial route, you can remove CP and add all FEC/SWAP codes with various free tools. However, you will be left with component protection fault codes in the headunit and CAN gateway which I don't believe effect anything.

If you go down the official route and use ODIS online, everything will work apart from navigation as your cars VIN only has entitlement for MIB2 std maps. You can use the same free tools to add the MIB2 high map entitlement, it's also worth doing Gracenote and Electronic Voice Amplifier at the same time. This will leave you with no fault codes if done properly.

Thank you for that valuable information, do you by any chance have the identification number for the correct glovebox unit. I know where I can get a correct screen from .

See this thread on here Infotainment Model Numbers

You probably want something starting with 565035020 or 565035021. The last letter doesn't matter as they can all be updated to the same software version. The difference is that 021 parts also have a SIM slot and antenna connecters. You're car wont have the wiring so it won't add anything useful unless you're planning to add GSM antennas.

The 3V0 versions listed in the thread posted by PetrolDave are MIB2 and will need converting to MIB2.5 before they support the 9.2" screen. I have no details on how this is achieved...

I have looked at the various Multimedia units available on line and most of the pictures on ebay show them with the cables cut off.

I can't find any diagram that shows what each cable actually does. Is there anything published anywhere. I have for my project already bought a Columbus Screen and am in the process of buying an appropriate Multimedia unit and I presume that the colour codes of the cables is the same between units. I have been told that the cable to the back of the screen needs to be trimmed to fit the socket. I may have also found someone who can do the fitting and coding but am awaiting confirmation. Is the a definitive list of what coding alterations are necessary that I can provide him with. Any help gratefully received. Keith

Hi,

I recently bought a Harmon Multimedia Unit 565035012E and a 9.2" Columbus Head Unit which I had installed by Retrofits Redditch. It works really well and I like the look of the dashpanel much better than the Amundsen it replaced. The only facility which seems absent is the SIM Card capability. I think that in order to get this there may be some additional Antenna connection required. Can anyone advise me as to what would be needed . I was using an LTEStick to use Skoda Connect and I still have about 9 months left on the contract so would like to use it again if possible.

The USB is still operational for Android Auto so if that could be a gateway to Skoda Connect that would be great. Advice welcomed.

Thank you,

Keith
