Hi thinking of getting an 2003 Octavia 4x4 t

:peepwall: Hi there found the site a while back but not posted until now.

Already a convert - I got an Octavia 1.6lx as bargain car and was pleasantly suprised. Even the AA man on the car's 1 and only breakdown was suprised it was anything other than a flat battery, which I thought a good sign! (it was actually the starter motor).

Doesn't break any speed records but like the way it handles.

Currently thinking of buying a '53 plate Octavia 4x4 1.8t, can anyone recommend this model? Also would be thinking of lowering it as I believe it rides an inch higher than standard Octy? Does this cause any problems?

Any advice gatefully recieved.

Many thanks.

Go for it! The 4x4 does ride higher, but so did my 1.8T elegance. You won't regret buying it

I've got an 03 4x4, i'd not hesitate to recommend it. Get it remapped, lowered and if your sensible some TT front brakes, sorted. You can get too much toe-in on the rear if your not careful when lowering, just depends how far you go.

An excellent choice! The extra ground clearance is 0.7" more than a standard Octavia or 1.3" more than a vRS. This, coupled with the heavy duty suspension, means that the car is less likely to lose its sump if the going gets rough. :D

See below for what I own.

Hi, and welcome

Welcome! Sounds like a sound choice to me. And you can tweak a few things if you're so inclined, as has been recommended already.

Let us all know how you get on...

Hi All,

Thanks for all your prompt responses.

I'm not thinking of lowering it much as I've managed to ground the 1.6 on a number of occaisions! Guess I'll see what I think when I actually drive it and take it from there?

Do like the idea of getting it remapped, I hadn't thought about upgrading the brakes but guess that makes sense if the standard brakes struggle.

Will post when I have the car and let you know what work I have done to it.

Cheers all.
