Virtual Cockpit - individual binnacle / how to enter configuration

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Scala gone - new Octavia vRS estate now. See that the virtual cockpit has changed again and the online video manuals suggest that there is a config page to select all items you want to view in the left and right side of each 'binnacle' but for the life of me cannot find this configuration page. Also there is now no way whatsoever to be able to scroll through media using the steering wheel (bar basic skip forwards/back etc) to select albums/artists etc?

And my one biggest annoyance that was prevalent in the Scala (and also my wife's new Mini), why oh why does it return to CarPlay/Android Auto upon starting when for example the last media was DAB radio?

I fear I am turning into a technophobe, but some really annoyances for sure.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Mark

Assuming you mean you have a 4.5 then the left and right display options are selected by pressing the right scroll wheel (one click right, second click left).

In our Kamiq you use the right hand controls on steering wheel left/ right scrolls through different screen options Press wheel and scroll up and down to tick which options you want in each screen EG in assist you can turn lane assist of /on etc

I had an Octavia 4, and yes, you could enter a config menu and choose what you wanted to display or not in terms of options. All options were available for the right or left side.

I now have an Octavia 4.5, and there appears to be no config menu, and one set of options are available for the left, and a different set of options are available for the right. Also noted that you cannot display the gearbox temp anymore. I went searching for the config menu, like you, and didn't find one!

That’s correct, the config menu was a 4 feature that doesn’t exist in 4.5

Glad I am not loosing it then, and yes an Octavia 4.5 as brand new (though I have learnt something today as didn't realise that was what this facelift is referred to as). I find it bonkers that I cannot just have a gear display in the left binnacle and speed display on the right binnacle.. not much to ask! I currently have them set for oil temps and media as the best out of a bad bunch of default options....

Sportline/RS View better?

Yes I’ve done the same

I'd like more customisation as well. I have stat's since refuelling in the right display and MPG since refuelling in the left. However, I'd drop the time stat' from the right side, moved MPG across and have the left free to see something else.

I would also like gear choice to show when not in Sport.

Remember in the full detail view you get the distance and economy in the centre and the scroll wheel steps you through since start, since refuelling and long term

Going back to one of my original questions. Is there no way to control media from the steering wheel now. In my old Octavia (and Scala) I could select media as the main display and then scroll through albums etc using the right thumb wheel. Maybe I should be embracing voice, but so far not getting on. For usage case, I have an Android Pixel 9 pro using VLC Player over Bluetooth.

I generally do not use Android Auto as it frustrates the hell out of me that it reconnects and restarts what I was last playing, even if the source was not Android Auto.

Don’t think you can do that. You have skip track and volume on the left but everything else is controlled from the main infotainment screen. I use Apple CarPlay and either Siri to play something or touch the screen.

There's a menu option somewhere that stops AA doing that (autoplay media when connected or something similar). I only found it as I thought it was really annoying to have AA start Spotify even though I'd had the radio on when I turned the car off.

I would like to know if you can change media source without having to go via the touchscreen. Changing from AA to the radio seems to take a lot of taping. I remember having a Renault Clio many years that had a Source button on the audio control stalk.

Don’t think you ca change source from the steering wheel. You can add shortcuts for the radio so it’s just a click if on a home screen or a pull down and click if you put it there

To answer myself, the setting is the Android Auto settings (accessed via the cog icon in AA) rather than the car audio config
