Faulty Bolero

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2017 Fabia Estate with a Bolero infotainment system, head unit 5Q0035842B.

Issue a) The screen started to go strange, see attached screenshot. At this point the system would still load when I switched on and I could use the buttons to navigate to the radio and connect the phone using Android Auto app.

Issue b) A few months later the system stopped booting and I'm now unable to use it at all. I've tried holding the on switch for 10 seconds to reset and also removing fuses and disconnecting battery all without success.

Issue c) the USB charging doesn't work at all - not sure if this is linked to the Bolero not switching on a different unrelated issue?

Some questions on this...

Based on the above information does it seem likely the head unit and/or screen are faulty? Are there any troubleshooting options I've missed?

Is it safer for me to buy a replacement unit/screen rather than send off in the post hoping a company can repair it? My worry is the repair cost could exceed the cost of purchasing a replacement and have a very low warranty cover if this goes wrong again.

If I do purchase a replacement android auto unit I would want one which links to the car data and has same functionality ie. Can reset tyre pressures, link to phone and work from steering wheel etc.

Any suggestions or advice much appreciated!

Thanks,

Jeremy

It's hard to say if this is just the infotainment reader or both but looking at the picture you shared I think this is both. I can try to fix it and if not possible then replace but you have to deliver it to Poland. In the worst case (replacement) the cost is approx. 250 GBP plus shipping 25 GBP. Upon delivery you have to pay local import fees (mostly VAT).

Hi Pab567,

Many thanks for the quick response and offer to help. I can see you have a lot of expertise on this.

Do you know if the usb not charging is linked to the head unit not working or a separate issue?

I'm not able to message you directly as I haven't posted enough times. If you PM me with details for posting etc am I am able to respond to this?

Thanks,

Jeremy

Also, if I was going to replace the head unit and screen, what would you recommend? I've read some articles suggesting Android Auto head units do not perform as well as the original device but not sure if that's still the case.

@pab567 would really appreciate a further response on whether the USB charging is linked to the infotainment head unit or something else. And also if better to repair or go for a new Android Auto unit? Thanks Jeremy

Yes, USB is connected directly to infotainment reader so if infotainment reader is faulty then USB will not charge.

If you were satisfied with your unit then IMHO it's worth to try to have it repaired.
