Cámera doesn't work

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 2019 Fabia that I bought second-hand. I later found out it had a rear-end collision and was apparently repaired in an unlicensed workshop, as I’ve discovered several botched fixes.

The issue is that I can’t get the reverse camera to work. The screen goes black and shows the message "Rear view camera is not available". OBDeleven shows the static fault code B110231.

Since I noticed the tailgate has been replaced, I suspect the problem might be in the wiring. I’ve checked the wiring and see the following: there’s a cable with a Fakra connector that seems fine, and the camera has a 3-wire connector connected to the vehicle's 2-wire plug. I checked and the 2 wires are red-yellow (12V+ constant) and black-blue (12V+ when reverse gear is engaged). I think there should be a third wire for ground (-).

I’ve tried grounding the brown wire from the camera to -12V, but still no luck. I’ve also cleared the error with OBDeleven and restarted the screen, but it doesn’t work either.

Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hello again, I'm going to update the subject because I’ve partially solved the problem.
It turns out that, as I mentioned earlier, the car had been repaired. I decided to remove the plastic panels to check the wiring, and while removing the right-side trunk panel, I noticed that the cables leading to the rear door were running very close to the top screw of the side plastic panel in the trunk. When I removed it, I found a damaged cable that had been broken by the plastic.
I spliced the cable and decided to test the reverse gear and... I got an image! What a relief, I was so happy. What I still don’t understand is how the camera works with only two positive wires — I honestly don’t get it. But when I removed reverse gear, the screen showed the message “Rear view camera not available” again. You have to accept the message or it stays permanently on the screen. Once accepted, it doesn’t appear again until the car is restarted. It’s a minor issue, but I’d prefer if the message didn’t show up. The error remains the same: B110231.

Could it be that this happens because the negative wire is not connected to the camera’s brown wire?
I don’t want to connect it in case something goes wrong.

I look forward to your replies — they will be most welcome.

You want the wiring diagram for your car as the camera may well have been wired up wrong, never trust bodge wiring or the colour of wires used.

If things aren't too balls'd-up @pab567 might be able to help you.

Yes, it could be. Camera needs +12V permanent, GND and +12V when reverse engaged.

Second problem solved. Apparently the camera was defective. I purchased a replacement on eBay and the error message no longer appears. Thank you all so much for helping me.
