Skoda Fabia2 1.9 TDI PD transmission oil leak

Featured Replies

Hello all, my first post on here I believe, so go easy on me.

I have a Skoda Fabia mk2 2008 1.9 TDI PD. I have a transmission fluid leaking from what appears to be the NSF drive shaft rod where it enters into the driveshaft. I have had a few friends and one mechanic look at my car and the mechanic said the drive shaft bearing has failed along with the 2 seals and not just to assume it’s just the seals.

Now considering my car is 16 years old and the engine has only done 124k I’m going to assume the gearbox is most likely due a recon as well as the clutch?

The car pulls lovely and drives fine I love my car but in the meantime I’ve had to buy another car to get to and throw from work. I picked up a Skoda fabia estate 1.6 TDI CR that’s a 12 plate and it’s done 126k with one owner from new. But came with only one key and no paperwork whatsoever ever. I paid £1570 for it, only down side is the car stinks of cigarette smoke whoever owned it originally must of been a chain smoker as all the roofline is stained yellow. 😂 I’m aware the 1.6 TDI CR engines are notoriously bad for injectors failing and premature fuel pump failure as well as the cost of replacing EGR valve when they clog up and the DPF. but given the second car was cheap I just went and got it. the plus side it’s £20 a year to road tax and good on fuel I’m getting 45mpg real world MPG.

Anyway back to topic, what’s the chances that the 1.9 TDI PD just needs new seals and bearing can I get away with just doing that without having to get the gearbox reconditioned and clutch done?

My folks had one with a lot more miles and gearbox/engine never gave them any probs. They had a clutch replaced at about 100k. If the gearbox is smooth with no noises/whines/crunches I would just repair the bearings/seals and at the same time the clutch if the gearbox has to be removed. Probably worth doing the slave cylinder at the same time.
