O/S Headlight going off intermitantly

Featured Replies

I'm hoping any of you guys can help.

I've got a 2015 Mk 3 vrs with xenon headlight bulbs and the o/s one keeps going off when driving and when stationary.

I've had it into the garage that I use and they reckon it could be a faulty bulb, the price of a new Philips is around £80.

A couple of questions,

  1. has anyone else got any advice on this please.

  2. Does anybody know of some reasonably priced aftermarket bulbs. please

Thank you in advance

I had this sproblem with my BMW 740 soon after I acquired it a few years ago. Coincidentally the car failed an MOT test because the colour temperature of the two xenon bulbs in the dip beam lights were different. Replacement bulbs enabled an MOT test pass but the O/S one continued to go out after a few minutes running. It was the voltage inverter at fault and an OEM Hella replacement was around £600 (I know, unbelievable but true!) at the time. Found a pattern part on the bay of evil for around £100 and it's still working to this day.

Be prepared for a big bill.....

P.S. You won't get better than Phillips bulbs.

I would suggest that you have a potentially faulty electrical ballast in that case. I had an early Xenon MK2 Scout and that came down to water in the ballast. As a check though, you need to get a scan done of the car as this will show you whether it is a bulb issue or an electrical connection issue.
