VW Alloys for my Fabia

Featured Replies

I have a 2010 Fabia 1.6TDI Hatchback with the usual 16'' 12 spoke alloys it came with (elegance), they are looking a little bit ' ropey' and i was going to get them all refurbed, but the cost is a decent amount of cash, so looking at ebay etc i can see that i can pick up a decent set of VW 16'' alloys from either a Polo or a Golf, would they fit my Fabia ? Or can i not go past certain year of manufacture ? The aspect ratio on one set was 65.

Thanks.

Not newer generation of Golf. That are as with an Octavia, Karoq, A3 / A4 , Leon etc. 5 x112 PCD.

You are looking for 5x100 PDC Scala, Kamiq, Roomster, A1, Ibiza.

The Skoda accessory catalogue lists eight 15" alloy rims for the Fabia MK3...which can be ordered from any VAG parts department by quoting the relevent OEM part number (shown on each listing).

These 6Jx15 ET38 rims are similar to the Fabia MK2 6Jx15 ET43 rims, ie. 5mm difference in offset. The ET38 offset means that the rims will be 5mm further out in each wheelarch compared to the ET43 offset...so perhaps a slightly more sporty look.

The standard 15" Fabia MK2 tyre size (195/55R15) could be used with these rims, although the Fabia MK3 uses 185/60R15 with these rims.

With an older Fabia, it might not make economic sense to spend about £1,000 on a set of four new alloy rims and tyres.

Most Fabia MK2 models, except 1.4TSI 180PS/1.9TDI 105PS/1.6TDI 105PS/1.2TSI 105PS use the smaller 256x22mm front brake discs rather than the bigger 288x25mm front brake discs...so 14" wheels can be used with these smaller front brake disc models, while the bigger front brake disc models need at least 15" wheels to clear the front brake calipers.

The Fabia MK2 6Jx14 rims use 185/60R14 as standard...although slightly oversize 185/65R14 or 195/60R14 can be used if it doesn't invalidate the insurance.

@Carlston No mention in the OP of 14" or 15" rims.

Looking for a decent set of 16" rims. (From a VW)

The Skoda accessory catalogue doesn't list standard 16" Fabia MK2 rims, ie. 6.5Jx16 ET43 5/100 57.1

The OP might not have considered 14" and 15" options, and if they are listed in the CoC there shouldn't be any insurance problems.

It's also worth pointing out that 205/45R16 tyres provide very little protection from kerbing damage to 6.5J rims because the sidewalls don't bulge out much. 6J rims are too narrow for 205/45R16 tyres, so that's not an option for this tyre size.

6Jx16 ET35/ET38 rims from the Scala/Kamiq could be considered with 185/50R16 or 195/50R16 tyres if the insurance isn't invalidated...but the cost of both the tyres and rims are likely to be considerably more than 15" options.

6Jx15 ET38 5/100 57.1 and 6.5Jx16 ET42 5/100 57.1 from a Golf MK4 could be used (if the slightly different offsets don't invalidate the insurance), but the Golf MK4 tyres can't be used because they have a much bigger outside diameter than Fabia MK2 tyres.

Plenty used rims advertised. Just need to buy well and correct fitment. PS. The op might well have very good tyres already.. and style a priority.

As the Octavia MK1 is based on the Golf MK4, 6Jx15 ET38 5/100 57.1 rims and 6.5Jx16 ET42 5/100 57.1 rims are also used on this car.

As well as a 205/45R16 6.5Jx16 ET43 5/100 57.1 Fabia MK2 wheel being very prone to kerbing damage it's also very prone to pothole damage.

Fortunately, the Skoda parts catalogue for the Octavia MK1 lists a 6.5Jx15 ET43 5/100 57.1 alloy rim that could be used on the Fabia MK2 with a 205/50R15 tyre size (providing it doesn't invalidate the insurance). This would provide kerbing protection, pothole protection, and elegance...as well as a more comfortable ride than a 205/45R16. The Octavia MK1 uses a 205/60R15 tyre size with this rim, which has an outside diameter that is too big for the Fabia MK2.

Buying 'Used Rims' from cars that were built over 18 years ago is just not Simply Clever.

& as to buying New ones for that model, why would anyone to put on a different model when they can just buy New that came on the Model / Generation of car they have.
