MK2 2012 cr170 fan intermittent

Featured Replies

The blower fan doesn't start up when first starting car (it does occasionally but more often then not it doesn't) . It will start randomly or when you are going quick enough like its windmilling itself on. Also turns itself off sometimes when fan speed is low and will then turn on again when going quick enough. anyone experienced this? want to sort it before winter so i can defrost the car.

do i start with just replacing fan motor? anyone recommend anything else?

I have a new to me 2009 estate with the same problem, did you manage to solve it?

Is it actually the fan blowing the air or just the pressure caused by driving faster?

Sounds like a loose connection, maybe a cold solder in a model.

Probably need to tap or wriggle a bunch of connections while parked up to find the culprit.

Just ordered new fan motor. Just waiting for it to arrive. When plugged in with vcds there is a fault with the blower motor that comes up. Can’t remember what it says exactly.

I've ordered a pollen filter, when that comes I will remove the notor and try some WD40 on it.

If that doesn't help I will have to order a new motor, it looks simple enough to replace.

Pollen filter arrived today, took about 30 seconds to fit, easiest car I have ever changed one on.

Whilst I was under the glove box I managed to remove the blower motor without removing the glove box. It span freely so I sprayed it with WD40 and replaced it but it still doesn't work.

I have now ordered a replacement...

I got round to fitting the replacement blower motor today.

Didn't need to remove the glove box as it was accessable from underneath, 5 minute job.

I ordered the part off ebay, I took mine out of the car and compared the part numbers on the motor and the resistor and found one off a VW Passat for £40 for the motor and resistor.

I fitted it and tried it but it didn't work first time so I had another look and I hadn't pushed it all the way in, gave it a shove and a twist and it works a treat now, even the aircon seems to blow reasonably cold so that is a bonus too.

I'm very pleased as it was a cheap fix and I was able to do it myself even though I'm not very handy with the tools.
