2021 Octavia 1.5 TSI common issues

Featured Replies

I'm probably about to purchase a 2021 Octavia Estate 1.5 TSI SE Tech. I trust the dealer (independent) but for my own peace of mind I'm getting a mechanic come to look over it with me anyway (as I don't know what I'm looking at, frankly). It's high mileage (nearly 90K) but has full service history so I think I'm OK with the miles. What sort of things should I ask him to specifically check over please? Anything that are common niggles? Plus any other tips generally (like should I ideally replace the cam belt if/when I get it etc)? Thanks

Does the mechanic who is coming to check the car have experience with skoda or with that 1.5l engine? If you can hook up a scanner check for misfires.

I don't know, I doubt it. It's just a good mechanic who had time to do it! Thanks for the info re misfires, I'll see if he can check that.

A Full Service History is great, but you need to know it is a History o everything that is scheduled, recommended by the manufacturers actually done.

Tyres good, brakes / discs good, windscreen good no chips.

Re the Cam Belt replacing, that will be quoted at between £800-£1,200.

Since 2023 Skoda changed as VW told them to maybe double the mileage the car has done.

If it was at 50,000 miles in early 2023 & the cambelt not done it was not serviced to the manufacturers guidelines, advice, schedule or specification. (But that was UK only advice from VW, as the UK is not a dust rich country.)

So annual / 9,400 mile oil and filter of flexible, 2 years, 18,000-20,000miles.

Pollen Filter @ 2 years. so twice,

Air Filter at least once,

Spark plugs replaced twice.

Brake Fluid Replaced.

A Main Dealer would be saying the AC should have been serviced.
