Charging limits on PHEV

Featured Replies

Hello crew

What level are people charging their PHEV to?

I have had mine for a few months and charge most days, as we only do 50 odd miles typically.

I have read the usual "charge to 80%" guidance, but also that you can go up to 100 and down to 0 because PHEVs have a larger chunk of battery that is unused to safeguard.

Any opinions?

I tend to stick to the 20% - 80% range, but I am aware that even when the battery is flat … there is a hidden residual charge that stops you doing any damage.

While I try to stick between the above limits, if I need 100%, then I charge it fully (but will not let it sit for days at 100%) and will run it until it’s ‘empty’ - it’s there to be used!

I believe that the specific battery chemistry in the Kodiaq (LFP) needs to be charged to 100% occasionally to maintain the management systems calibration.

I read somewhere that LFPs also prefer occasional charges rather than constant tiny top ups.

I charge mine to 80%, use it until it’s below 50% (that may be one day or over several days, then charge overnight back to 80%

I always charge it to 100%, use it daily, try to empty the battery, then let it use the TSI every two cycles or when I don’t make it to the charging station and repeat. On 3 to 4 out of 10 cycles, the battery gets depleted to only 10%-30%, usually when I need the stationary heating/cooling option.

Enjoy your bear!

the kodiaq battery type is NMC, not LFP.
