Regen EMF Warning Light

Featured Replies

Hi All have a Skoda 1.6TDI CXMA engine.

Recently the EMF warning light has come on static orange.

I wondered if this could indicate an series of incomplete regen cycles?

The cooling fan has been coming on full chat after a very short run when stopping.

Have taken vehicle for a good blast holding down in 3rd to increase engine revs and get it really warm to hopefully create a regen.

Fans have not been coming on since and performance is as normal.

I know I need to hopefully read the fault code.

I wondered if this light could stay in even if a regen has happened and need resetting

This leads me to my second question I have a very cheap OBD plug in reader with digital display.

I'm thinking of investing in a better diagnosis tool. It seems a bit of a minefield as to what to get around the £200 mark.

Can anyone make any recommendations on diag tools.

Many Thanks

Regen doesn’t just happen at high revs or hot engine, it’s during a set of parameters.

I have a 1.6 cayc diesel Octavia and for carista to force start a regen you need to keep -

Engine warm,

Min 1/4 tank fuel

Speed above 60kph

Revs 2000 - 2500

In my car (5speed manual) this is 4th gear at 90kph or 55mph.

Duration of the above up to 20mins, then some cool down time, but generally about 9mins will put the DPF light back off.

I imagine your will be similar, it you bead a good stretch of clear road where you won’t be changing gears or speed much - a nice dual carriage way.

Also, I’ve found Carista dongle and the app pretty good, just pay for the 12 month subscription and it’s not that expensive

Many Thanks for reply thought I would add an update as may help others.

Purchased a Topdon 600 Pro diag and connected up to Rapide.

Correctly identified the vin number and carried out fault code scan.

It brought up PO67200 cylinder 2 glow plug circuit.

So looks like it is the glow plug I need to replace.

Cleared fault and car was driven a good few miles without further light.

Expected this to come back on with next cold start that it did the following morning.

The Topdon was able to read the Ash load in the DPF that was zero as had been driven hard to clean it.

Out of interest put the Topdon on my later Octavia and it read the Ash load in filter as 11g max being 80.

Just got to hope glowplug comes out ok with hot engine. Can't see how this pre soaking helps as it's compression sealed and won't sleep down till thread is cracked slightly.

After glow plug moves can see release oil being handy but not before?

Thanks for reply that Carista with sub looks good.
