Intermittent Headlamp main beam/flasher.

Featured Replies

On my 12 plate Citigo the headlamps work properly on dipped beam. However, the main beam anf flasher have an intermittent problem whereby they don't work. Both lamps are affected exactly the same. The fact that the dipped beams work suggest that there is power to the switches and I have been wondering whether it could be a problem with a relay. However, I cannot find any trace of a relay for headlamps either in the manual or looking on the car. There does not appear to be any particular pattern to the problem. I would be grateful for any advice anyone could offer about the actual fault and whether there is a headlamp relay, or relays, tucked away somewhere. Many thanks.

Stupid question:-

Is there power getting to the bulb connector?

Have you taken the bulbs out and checked that both filaments work in each bulb?

Haven't actually taken the bulbs out. However, given that the dipped beam behaves normally and the main beam does when it feels like it i - both sides doing the same thing at the same time, I decided that the bulbs weren't the problem. I could, though, try doing so out of desperation.

We have had it twice on my Wife’s Citigo where both Dip Beam bulb elements have failed at the same time , as the bulbs are easy to take out it is well worth checking them

Perhaps the light switch and/or the stalk?

Thanks. AG Falco
