CD Changer Question(s)

Featured Replies

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I've managed to obtain a VW/Audi/Skoda/Seat CD changer for fitting in the GLXI & was lead to believe by the parts dealer that the necessary cabling would be pre-installed in the boot; & Skoda did inform me that the standard MS201A radio/cassette player would also accept a changer unit.

Perhaps I'm missing something but after checking everywhere I can't seem to find any cable that isn't associated with the various lights or boot central locking.

I think the guy that sold the changer unit might have been streering me up a blind alley with this idea, but just to be sure, where abouts would I find the cable, if fitted?

If it isn't fitted, where's the best place to obtain the necessary wiring loom to run from the boot to the dash?

Thanks in advance,

Glen

Have you had a look under the carpet to the left of the boot closest to the bumper end? The carpet is the piece that runs up the side of the car, not the one the spare wheel is under.

I have no idea if it is there, but thats roughly where it is in the newer cars.

I've never seen any pre installed wiring for the CD changer.

Got it used; from a private dealer in Stockport, & the doctor who had it before was meant to have had the CD changer fitted. They claimed, apparently, to have removed it for fitting in their new Fabia ambiente.

Going to have it fitted by the local Skoda dealer when I take the car in for its MOT on Friday; as I just can't find the time with work at the moment to fit it myself. Shame really as I've fitted radio kits (the non-visible variety) in some VRS Octies for a police force before now.

It's amazing how many of the forces are adopting them as unmarked/ pursuit vehicles these days; they take off the VRS badges in a lot of cases & always get a laugh at how people don't realise just how fast a Skoda can go.

Latest update on this is that I took the car in to have the loom & changer fitted, at the local dealer, on Friday. They forgot to order both the loom & the bonnet release cable; put this down to human error, but did state that it might not be possible to get the wiring loom as the car is a Mk 1 & that it would take at least a week for the parts to arrive (odd that as even new bits for a friend's really old Favorit are normally available same day).

Oddly enough, managed to pick up a loom on ebay for £20.

Don't really fancy having to wait until the end of the month & my next proper day off. I'd fit it myself if I could just find the time to get into Halfords & get the Haynes manual; so I can figure out how to get the various bits of trim off & hide the cable.
