Heavy Clutch on vRS?

I bought my 2006 vRS 2 months ago and am generally extremely pleased with it, however I feel that the clutch can be quite heavy and often "snatchy" so I'd be interested to know how others find the clutch. In particular, when disengaging the clutch changing from 1st to 2nd gear it tends to thump if you dont take your foot off the accelerator a second or so beforehand. When re-engaging it can also be quite servere and not always smooth. Presumably this is because of the high torque generated in low gears, however it came as a shock compared to other cars I have recently owned. I have now learned to drive to minimise the effect

Any comments would be appreciated. I'd like to know if this is normal or a fault i should get fixed under warranty. Incidentally Tiff Needell on 5th Gear recently described the vRS as being "more agricultural" to drive than the similar Golf GTi. Perhaps this is what he meant?

Sounds like you have the same issue as me then. I have just moved this message to the New Octavia forum, where it rightly belongs.

Thanks for the heads up.

Find a smooth shift from 1st to 2nd quite difficult particularly when 'pressing on' (same to some degree 2nd to 3rd) but then on the otherhand I don't get to drive it as often as i would like :) Don't think it is a fault as such, swmbo is a little bit smoother  , someone else may say different.

I commented on this in another thread, IIRC somewhere in the manual, it says that you should change up from 1st to 2nd within the length of the car! In other words 1st is hardly used! I complained about this in the other thread, and there was a comment that the engine & gearbox mounts are very soft. I don't know if Skoda is doing anything about this, but Awesome Sarah knows of aftermarket options being developed, especially the dog-bone mount on the gearbox!

I'm glad I'm not the only person to wonder about this. I find that the clutch has a high and sharp biting point and this can make it difficult to move away from standing in 1st gear.

If I'm driving normally and sensibly the engine often sounds like it might stall just before the clutch is released and 1st gear pulls the car away. It's not as bad going to 2nd gear but it's not as smooth to change from neutral to 1st to 2nd as I'd like. If I'm going for it, the revs and pull of the car make up for the slight jolt.

The only time I notice this is with a passenger as their head nods backwards and forwards, I find it almost impossible to change gear without making them rock!....doesn't bother me at all as the driver though.

Can anyone tell me will the DSG be an option in the new 170 VRS ? have been emailing Skoda for some info but no joy.And dealers have no idea.

This is very unlikely. Skoda have already said that the cost of a DSG automatic system is prohibitive and since they do not offer it on the petrol model I don't see why they would offer it on the diesel Octavia vRS.
