Stock Look ICE

Featured Replies

I finally decided to put a system into my 2003 Octy. My main concern was value and sound quality opposed to potency. the car comes pith a radio 4x45w I got Speakers to the front, and speakers for the back. A 4 channel 1600 watt amp and 2 10" subwoofers. I can't remember the wattage of the speakers but the size matches stock size. I have never installed anything before in my life and did know how to do it. I kind of figured it out as i went along. So I started with the front speakers, which are the only speakers the octy classic comes with anyway. I was thinking about taking the panel apart front the door but I didn't have the right bit. So I took a knife and fried open the grill, and took out the speaker, I saw the connectors didn't fit on my new speaker so i strip the both wires and connected, got it right at my first guess. When I was going to put the speaker in, turns out there's not enough space in there. My new speaker was thicker but smaller circumference. There was this metal part that didn't let me go in so i hit it with a hammer until it bent. I fitted the front speakers with only 2 screws because the rest don't line up:

After I was done with that, it was sounding better already. I had to pull out the radio what going on back there, so i pried it open and then pulled on it really hard and it poped put.

after i was back there i started wiring for the back speakers, because these cars are not wired for them. Started throwing cables thru the sides, but they kind of don't fit there.

but that's what i got. I ran both left and right back speakers thru the passenger side along with the one for the amp. this is the wiring mess:

I also had to take out the glove box for better acess. go needs a glove box anyway?

(as i'm taking stuff off im losing all the screws so i don't know if i'll be able to put it back together again)

puttin the back speakers was way easier i think the are 5 and 1/4 and they fit nicely, put scrweing them in was hard because of the lack of space. but they are fairly hidden, for the subtle look.

getting power for the amp was really hard. i went thru the side and into the door. right now the cable is getting smashed whenever i close the door.

the grill looks kind of lumpy because of the bigger speaker inside. After i put the cables in the amp and the other cable to the ground. (the ground cale came out kind of short so the subs are now looking to the side.)

I fired it up and it works pretty well. I still have to clean up and figure out how to run the power for the amp and maybe get a longer earth cable so I can put the subs facing the back and not the side. Also attach the amp to the top of the subbox. I spent 11 hours on it today and more than half of the time was trying to figure out what I was doing but the car didn't explode so it was a good day.

Extra: My neighbor got a new car today and i hate him already.

You're funny man

I was thinking of getting 6x9 for the back but i had no idea where they would fit so i got 5 1/4 because that's the stock size. I will probably get some 6x9s later and change the 51-4s although they are giving me good saound. Also I think I have to reroute the power amp cable. and put the glove compartment back on if i find the screws. Also these cars have the tendency to drop parts, like pastic pieces have fallen off from everywhere i was saving themn, but now i just throw the away. Does anyone know a better way to put in the power cable for the amp?

Ok i would sort that power cable quick, it is so dangerous the way you have it, there are plenty of spare grommets in the bulkhead!

  • Author

Yeah, it's starting to get squished pretty good in the door. Two questions thou, what is a spare grommet? and what is a bulkhead? this is the only serious issue i still got everything got sorted out, the only other thing is that when i turn the amp up too much it shuts down, I have a 1600w X4 channel amp for two 1000w 10" subs

I just haven't been able to find a hole to pass the power cable for the amp.

NObody knows where can i run that cable thru?

I dont own a octavia myself, so i cant tell you, however im sure someone will tell you.

Please bear in mind that the figures you give for your products wiill make no where near that, RMS values is what you need to look at

  • Author

What are RMS values? Could the amp be shutting down because the subs are underpowered? I hope someone here knows where's the whole to pass the power cable. My friend who helped me had ut like i do and his car caught fire.

So you decided it would be a good idea to copy him?!

Try having a look underneath the glovebox, under the dash. You're looking for a little rubber bung in a hole that goes through into the engine bay... or start in the engine bay and look for rubber plugs at the back that look like they could go into the cabin, then try and locate them in the cabin. When you find one that goes through, just cut a hole or slit big enough for the cable to pass through, and run this through the car. I don't have and Octavia either, nore have I ever worked on one, so I can't be any more help than that I'm afraid.

Actually he helped me with my install. After it was done he said: "Maybe we should try passing that thru somewhere else, my caddy caught fire like that" it was pretty funny.
