Heating when stationary

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

probably a really stupid question but here goes.....I have a hybrid mk2 Kodiaq and quite regularly end up ferrying my daughter around various activities and end up waiting in the cold. I can't seem to find how to get the heating to work when the ignition is on (either with charge left in the battery or not). I can get the fan to operate and change speed but i can't get any hot air out I'm sick of being cold! Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

The feature you want is “Stationary Air Conditioning”, and it’s in vehicle settings (top row, right hand end - but I have moved those about so could be in another place on the screen for you … swipe left or right for additional settings). In the pic you can see that I have set it as a shortcut (green icon to the right of the clock)…. Tap it to turn it on (turns green), tap it to turn it off (goes grey).

This is the same feature that allows you to pre-heat (or cool) the car from the app (on the app home page it’s called target temperature)

Maybe I'm wrong, but is this a standard option? AFAIK this is an extra, so if the OP does not have it, it will not help. Or maybe it's an PHEV specific, I don't know. What I can tell for sure is that on ICE if you want heat, you need the engine to run, and is better to drive, even slowly, to get it up in temp. You would consume gas anyway, idling or driving.

He specifically says there is power in the battery, and so I’m pretty sure it’s the PHEV, otherwise he would just run the engine

Not sure I follow you. What I meant is you can produce heat by using the ICE, if nothign else works.

I can't say much about PHEVs, as I never owned / drove one.

The feature is standard in any EV (or PHEV). It’s usually called pre-conditioning and is used to remotely heat (or cool) a car before getting in it. The same feature is used when parked up and you need heat (or cold) as it avoids needing to run the ICE

Oh, OK, thanks for the info. I was confused as for ICE cars this is an extra option, you can turn on heating or cooling remotely and I'm pretty sure I don't have this as a menu in my car either (I'm not interested so I did not opt for it).
