Can I put a 205 tyre on safely?

What width are the rims? :D

Does anyone know how I would find this out????

It should be stamped on the rim somewhere, something like 6J... Have a look underneath your centre cap...

Chris

Yeah have a look on the rim as it's stamped on there somewhere - I believe it's the width in inches.....

Chris

it's the width in inches.....

See Jon's thread about length and girth for full details ;)

The standard elegance wheels are 15x6J ET43

You could put wider tyres on them but I'd say 195's are probably the best size.

A 6.5J or 7J rim would be more suitable for 205 or 215's

Lummox why can't you fit 205 tyres to rims narrower then 7J ? Skoda themselves fit 205/45's to 16x6.5J on the vRS.

I agree 205's are too wide for 6J but not 6.5J ?

Im going by some info on another site. Has a calculator similar to the popular size one and it says ideally 7" to 9" is the best for a 205 section tyre.

But of course you are correct in what you are saying so the advice is obviously a guide at best.

In my experience bigger wider wheels don't do small cars any favours really. When I used to have 6N Polo it handle the bends very sweetly on Eibach's and the standard 6J rims and 185 Yoko tyres :-)

Agreed, I have 7 x 16's with 195/45 Yokos and the handling is just what I like, good turn in and doesnt tramline down every rut in the road.
