Windscreen demisting did nothing!!

Featured Replies

We had torrential rain and a thunder storm here today. The road outside my house was like a river and I was up to my ankles in it whilst trying to get to my car, but that's another story :D

Anyway, I set off and had the blowers on full blast to clear the windscreen that was obviously steaming up inside. I closed off the other vents so all the air could be directed at the screen. It did nothing apart from give me a little row (about 1.5 inches in diameter) of clear dots at the very bottom, directly above the vents.

My journey lasted about 15-20 minutes, is this normal to have such a slow/non existant response?

Have you got aircon, should have turned it on, if not recirc mode would have been better with high humidity.

Turn the aircon on - it demists the windows much better ;):)

"The demist setting, it does nothing!"

I tried aircon and recirculation aswell, just incase it was me :)

 Even I have to use the forum for the real purpose of it being here sometimes Walks.

I find that having a window or two down a bit helps too - With the windows closed it just moves the air around that's causing the steam up - with windows open the air can get out and it tends to address the imbalance between the outside and inside of the screen.

Hope this helps. :)

Hi

Very humid today, so aircon should have demisted it. Failing that, windows open a bit to let air through should help as well.

I live and learn  I was working on the principle that with the windows open the air i was directing at the screen would lose it's sense of purpose so to speak.

Mine cleared the screen just by pressing the demist button on my climate :D Smashing

HTH ;)

Telling me that doesn't help Chris. What would help however is if next time it happens I could give you a ring and you could pop over and take me to work? Perhaps a piggy back to my car aswell if it's torrential rain again?

On a serious note, I'd check the rear carpets to make sure that you haven't got leaky rear seals as that might cause of what you're seeing.... :D Air con on and vents pointed at windscreen should clear the screen.....

Damn, meant to check the rear as I know others have had problems. Still, if it's anything like my trainers I had to put on to go out to the car it will still be sodden tomorrow

Did you try adjusting the temperature?

I tried everything

I'm pleased to report that all my seals are intact, no wetness atall in the back

i think you answered your own question there pixi as to why it wouldn't clear , sodden trainers , all that extra moisture evaporating off the trainers in the hot and humid conditions would take ages to dry out , i agree with Jason on this winding down the windows should of sorted it

Hello,

I had a similar problem in my 2006 estate. Apparently, it was a plastic box where the AC condensor sits that was not draining - leaves or something from sitting at the dealers. Water collects there and if it does not drain away you are simply blowing similarly warm/cold humid air right out of the AC unit that your trying to get off your windscreen. I don't know if that helps, but demist should work.

Damp items in the car don't/doesn't help.

I find regularly cleaning the inside of the windscreen and windows helps most.

Somehow it just doesn't seem to want to mist up as quickly or as badly if it's regularly cleaned.

Think the manual advises not to use recirc mode for demisting. In fact, if you have vent flow directed at your feet for example and recirc selected, then if you turn the flow to the full screen setting (12 o'clock), the recirc function will be automatically deselected (light goes out) even with air con on. Probably a clue!

no wetness atall in the back

And you're not wet up front ?
