Glow plug AND Engine management Lights on.

Featured Replies

Hi guys. Right, so, 2.0L TDI 140, 2009 era, manual gbox'd VAG car. Driving along this morning and suddenly the glow plug light came on and started flashing. This went away when I did the ol' IT trick, of turning it off and on again, but soon came back on. Not only that, but now, the EML has come on too, presumably to keep the glow plug light company. Car is in limp mode, obviously, and sounds lumpy AF when started after being left a while. When I switched the car off, I had the bonnet up, and after switching ignition off, I heard a couple of, what I can only describe as, squelches. My ol' obd reader isn't reading any codes, probably due to its age. This is my daily, so priority is paramount..

Suggestions based on experience at this stage will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

New

Cheers guys, Got the EGR out today, that and the other thing, butterfly valve. They were stinking filthy and I had to scrape and chip away a lot of crud. some tardis and throttle body cleaner and a toothbrush (not my daily one) got the rest off.
I did see that the egr I took out is a Valeo branded one, so clearly had a replacement in the past, they probably just slung the old one out instead of cleaning it. However, given the brand, I am aware that even after cleaning and refitting, it could just be knackered and require a new one anyway. Fingers crossed.

oh yeah, forgot to say that before that, I got it scanned. Had a code of P0403, pointing to the egr.

My only suggestion is to look at and/or ask on the Škoda model forum(s) that use that 2.0L TDI 140, 2009 era, manual gbox'd VAG engine (sorry I've no idea(s)). P0403 and squelches might point you towards the right direction.

Good luck.
