colombus sat nav upgrade

Featured Replies

was looking to do an upgrade to the sat nav on my colombus unit and reliably informed by satnavishop that there is no upgrade after 2020-2021 for the 2014 model in my vehicle.

Anyone shed any light as to why no further upgrades available?

Skoda only gave updates for five years for certain units. Shockingly short IMO.

The satnav update policy of manufacturers is nothing less than ridiculous. Cars last at least 15 years, and providing these updates is technically no problem at all.

This is where the EU should step in, by simply demanding updates for such periods (instead of making al these stupid Advanced Driver Assistance Systems mandatory, which only made cars more expensive, and most small cars EOL).

Can anyone tell me how to check the current version of this as far as satnav. I don`t want to purchase the satnav upgrade if it already has the latest/last one done...

Would really appreciate an answer here chaps if possible?

There is a hidden menu with all the version information. From recollection, you need to press and hold the SETUP button (lowest of 4 buttons on right) until the hidden menu appears. Will double check when go out to car in morning.

To decode the map version try https://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/VW_Navigation_System_Maps

Superb 2 Columbus is an RNS510 in disguise and so uses CY maps. The last end of life map release was V17 which for west europe maps shows as version 8557 in the columbus hidden menu. Think this was first available at end of 2019, certainly upgraded my maps for the last time with this version just before COVID kicked off

A 5 second hold of setup button gets you into "Radio service mode" menu and in there is a versions information button:

At the bottom of the versions info screen is the map version

This is my version, so I`m guessing I can go for the upgrade?

Yep, vintage 2013 V10 map so updating to V17 will get you half way to current roads! Still worth doing.

Bear in mind that can be problems installing maps from non-genuine DVD. The disc you are looking at buying will be a copy burnt onto a dual layer recordable disc, consensus seems to be dirty / old laser lens struggles to read the second layer of these discs. Had previously done 3 or 4 upgrades without problem, but my last upgrade initially failed (leaving me with no map on hard drive :-( Had to use a cd lens cleaner before it would successfully read whole disc and install on hard drive

Any idea how long it takes for this to upgrade? Popped the disc in and opted for install rather than use disc but there doesn't appear to be any progress bar or anything to say the unit is actually doing anything other than the odd disc noise here and there. Been sat out here for an hour so far...

From recollection takes around an hour but symptoms does suggest might be struggling to read a copy disc :-(

Mine is a 2010 car and I’ve updated as much, and as painfully, as I can. My car has the TV option too but now I can’t update the maps further and I’m just wanting to junk the whole thing and replace with a new DIN size unit that will slot in directly and give me Bluetooth, CarPlay, Google maps etc. from my iPhone.

Anyone done this? Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance,

Dave (Wile7)
