DAB aerial replacement

Featured Replies

Hi, the DAB signal on my 2016 Estate is terrible. Reading the forums there is a chance it is someting plugged in to the 12v sockets or dashcam, so I will try all of those.

In case it isnt somthing like that, I am looking at installing a new windscreen mounted antenna.

Does anyone know if the DAB plug is a standard Fakra type plug and if so would something like this suit?

Thanks

Yes it is - it says it on the title, although SMA and SMB are also options.

Went out to the car just now and unplugged dashcam and usb chargers etc. and radio worked perfectly. Plugged everything back in and it still works fine. So I have no idea what is causing the issue.

This arrived today and installed without issue.

Signal no better sitting on the drive. Nipping out later so will see if it improves when out and about.

No better driving around either. I generally use CarPlay and FM is good enough. Just annoys me if there’s something that doesn’t work, even if I don’t use it.

I use This DAB Antenne in 1x Octavia 3 Facelift, 1x Kodiaq 1 Pre Facelift and in 2x Seat Leon 5F.

IT Works perfect...

I don’t think it’s the antenna as it’s no worse than before. When I undid the fakra on the back of the radio it pulled out a few mm and I could see the wire behind. I wonder if there’s something loose inside the radio

It seems the MIB2 unit doesn’t output phantom power I think as the OEM has an amplifier.

So for £10 thought I would give this a go to see if it can make the aftermarket radio work as it requires phantom power.

I will tap the power from my switched power tap I use for the dashcam.

Also I’ve worked out how to actually scan for error codes and have got one for the digital aerial amplifier showing short to earth.

I’ll try the injector with the aftermarket one and if that works then I’m happy

Solved it!

As someone had said previously cheap usb adapters can interfere with the dab signal. I thought I had tested all variations fiddling about with the radio tonight I thought I would give the OEM radio another go and scan for issues. Lo and behold it started working. I then plugged my phone in to charge while I scanned for errors and it stopped working. unplugged the phone and it worked again.

Tried another usb adaptor and no issue.

So now the hunt for an alternative low profile usb adaptor that doesn’t interfere with the signal!
