Front wipers have stopped working

Featured Replies

Hi all

Could someone help with the following ?

My lad has the most basic poverty spec 2009 Skoda Fabia MK2 1.2 1 HTP 60.

The front wipers have stopped working.

Everything else on the stalk works.

Does anyone else know the likely fault?

Is it going to be a relay on the control module?

And what the fix is likely to be.

If it is the module and we bought an identical used one would it need coding or is it plug and play.

Many thanks

Paul

I'd check the linkage hasn't seized up first, take the nut off the motor spindle to free the arm, then check that you can move the wiper arms by hand.

Find my thread on wiper relay replacement in Fabia Guides section.

Pretty sure that within that somewhere are instructions for shorting two pins of the relevant BCM connector to test stuff beyond the relay.

This one 👍

Can I just replace the whole module off a srapped identical car or are they coded to the car. Thanks

There is some coding, for certain options, as follows (example marked up with the individual coding contributions of one given mk1 Fabia, coding is the sum of all these numbers):

You may well find there's sufficient overlap between any given secondhand unit and what's configured in your car, so you don't find any functional differences.

Hi,

We have just been through this - again. The second BCM or wiper relais failure since my daughter got the car.

I desoldered the relay with a hot air soldering machine which was o.k. Unfortunately I was a little generous with the solder and created a short on the board under the relay.

So I got a second hand BCM.

You have to make sure you order the correct PN. They are 6Q0..., 6Q1... and 6Q2...

As Pete said you probably will have to code the replacement unit as the trim level will be slightly different.
