L&K estate boot issues, what could be behind these symptoms?

Featured Replies

My tailgate is starting to play up. It started with the number plate lights registering as faulty, but just opening and closing the boot resolved it. Then the boot interior lights went the same way, the new fault as from yesterday is that all lights start flashing maybe twice a second.

The rear wiper now also doesn't work, and the boot only opens maybe one in five attempts. The one thing that helps is if I wiggle the left wire flexi as it enters the tailgate, that stops the lights flashing although the rear wiper stays off. Oh, and the 'boot open' message on the dash seems ok, it's registering when the boot is open or closed.

I'm going to guess that it's the wiring inside the flexible section, so this weekends job will be extracting it and having a look. That leads to two questions though;

  1. Given the symptoms am I on the right track. If so, how do I repair wires inside the flexi, given the lack of space as well as the need for the wires to bend.

  2. Is there anything else that could be contributing? I saw some posts about corroded tailgates but that seems to relate to the boot lock or the boot open switch, rather than lighting issues.

Hi , Take a look at your wiring Loom where it comes into the tailgate via a grommet, there has been a few incidents of the Loom fraying or wires breaking within the sleeve that can cause tail Gate Electric Problems.

Hope this helps

Excellent, thanks. I am on the right track then, I didn't want to have to break things down just to find it's probably ok.
