Passenger Door not always unlocking

Featured Replies

About 3 weeks ago when we had a frosty morning after unlocking the car the passenger door wouldn't open from either the inside or the outside. I tried it later in the day after the temperature had come up and it worked fine. Last weekend on another frosty morning I had the same issue.

Tonight with the temperature at 7 degrees the same issue presented. After locking the car and unlocking it the door unlocked and could be opened. That didn't work on the frosty days. I'll need to phone the dealer but I'm not sure exactly when I'll get a chance to take it in.

Is this a known issue that will be an easy fix it is it likely to be 2 trips to the dealer, one to diagnose and another to have the fix done if parts need to be ordered?

The car is just over a year old.

Cheers,

Paul

I would suggest it was frozen shut with ice - nothing to do with the locking mechanism.

I thought that the first couple of times but it has happened when it was 7 degrees so it can't have been frozen

As of today the passenger door is not unlocking at all. I also noticed whilst driving that the amber light does not appear on the door unlock button on the dash and that every time I go below 10 miles an hour and then sped up past 10 miles an hour that the rest of the locks click, which would normally only happen the first time crossing 10 miles an hour, at which point the amber light on the door lock button would come on.

I will phone the dealer tomorrow but it definitely seems to be faulty behaviour.

The car is now booked in on the 31st of March, that was the 3rd dealer as the first 2 were into April before thy could look at it. They have suggested that from the symptoms it sounds like a faulty door latch on the passenger door.
