Octavia 4.5 Facelift Dashcam Install

Featured Replies

Hi

Does anybody have any pictures of their dashcam install in the new Octavia facelift?

I have a blackview DR750 from my previous MK4 which is fairly large and as the rearview mirror plastics/layout are different I can't hide it behind the mirror as I did before.

I'm curious to see what others have done.

Thanks.

Pictures of my DR970x LTE fitted to my 4.5. Cable fed from switched live (rear wiper) via the BlackVue B124x battery, up A pillar, avoiding airbag. Along under headlining and around rain sensor etc. Coax to rear fed to where I need to route properly when it turns warmer.

Thanks Darrenw, I thought that might be the way to go. I have a similar setup with an LTE camera and seperate battery. Thanks again.

Why not feed it from the convenient usb socket above mirror?

It depends on what you need. The USB socket typically isn’t powered when the car is off, so if you want 24/7 surveillance (e.g. parking mode), you’ll need to hardwire the dashcam or use a dedicated external battery pack.

This is what I needed to do as my Blackvue has parking mode. Wired in an extra 12v cigarette type socket just below the glovebox as that was easiest place once tapped into a fuse in the box behind the glovebox. Used one of the centre console support struts as an earth point. Then used the supplied lead with a 12v plug for the separate battery which I put under the passenger side seat. Then just ran camera supply wires back under the trim/carpet, behind the centre console, clipped it under the drivers dash lower panel to keep the wires away from the pedals, then up the A pillar - minding the airbag - and along the top of the windscreen. Easy access to unplug it all as I can get at the additional 12v socket under the passenger side dash, and/or disconnect the camera power under the passenger seat at the battery
