Another key thread need real help

Featured Replies

Hello this is my first post and after reading a few threads this is a perfect place for answers as the people at skoda are not very helpful.

this is my problem i have a skoda octavia 4*4 turbo salvage and the ignition barrel was snapped off i have the original flip remote key, if i put the key in the barrel and turn the other end with a screwdriver i can start the car.

Now i was wondering if i buy a second hand ignition barrel with a flip key can i swap the blades over and start my car with a different blade but the original fob, Also is the transponder in the key blade itself or is it inside the top part of the black casing, Or can i buy a second hand barrel with a normal straight key buy a blade off ebay and get it cut to the same as the new key then attach it to the original key and then start the car.

any help would be appreciated i can get a barrel cut to my key but it could take a month thx

The blade is just a bit of metal. You can open the key by splitting it along the line through the middle.

If you buy a new barrel wont you then need to change the door locks too?

I have the original door lock key and the remote fob i just basically want to know if the key blade or the ignition barrel hold any information

Are you a car thief? You say you have the 4x4 ............................................................ got the reciept? LOL only joking

no i am not a car thief lol although the situation does look a bit dodgy but i am just looking at a cheaper alternative than to pay ridiculous amounts of money to skoda when after all i do have the original key and all i want to know is if i change the keyblade i can still start the car ie is the keyblade itself got some sort of code or is it in the fob itself thx

If its just the keyblade then you wont need to do any programming. The transponder lives in the plastic part attatched to the blade.

Thankyou lummox i think that helps i just wanted to know as i can get a second hand ignition barrel for

You will need to be able to turn the old barrel to position 1, so that you can press the clip in to release it to remove it.

Transfer the blade from the new key (it is held in with a small roll pin) to the old key and it should work.

If you are feeling particularly confident and your door lock is the sort that can be dismantled you may have enough different lock tumblers to allow you to make the door and boot lock match your new key.

Again thx for all the support it just goes to show that the main dealer isn't always the best route to go down, and i still have the key for the door locks i'm not that brave thx alot.
