Auto Hold abrupt/jolting release with audible bang

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Looking to hear from other Kodiaq owners about a specific Auto Hold issue I've been experiencing since delivery. Mine is a 2024 Kodiaq iv.

When stopped at traffic lights with Auto Hold engaged, pressing the accelerator causes the brake to release abruptly rather than smoothly, jolting the car forward. On a number of occasions this is accompanied by an audible bang. It's very noticeable and has been witnessed by a dealer technician during a test drive but he seems to think its just a characteristic of the car - it clearly isn't!

A few specifics that might help narrow it down:

  • It happens consistently, not just occasionally

  • The jolt feels like a delay in the brake releasing, then it lets go suddenly rather than progressively

  • The bang is audible to occupants and presumably to people outside the car

  • It occurs in normal driving conditions - flat road, no slope involved

The car has been back to the dealer but they haven't been able to diagnose or resolve it. They're currently trying to source a comparable iV for a test drive comparison.

Has anyone else experienced this? Specifically interested in whether:

  1. Other iV owners have the same behaviour

  2. Whether it's been diagnosed or linked to a software issue

  3. Whether any fix has been applied

Any experiences welcome, good or bad.

Thanks

My car also has braking problems, also Kodiaq IV! When braking lightly and constantly, sometimes it brakes too hard and then the ABS intervenes! I don't think it's normal and I think it's a software problem!

The ABS is a bit random for me too.

Do you get the jolt when you take off when auto-hold is active?

Honestly, I had no problem starting from a standstill, not even on a slope! For me, it manifests itself at low speed with light and constant braking, as if the wheels suddenly lock up and then the ABS unlocks!

I drive a VRS and can confirm that during winter, when using AH, it was clearly not OK, brakes being like stuck, sound clearly coming from brakes when moving from a stop. All this changed as soon as the temperature went up, so I guess it's just the brakes quality. Will see the next winter and have it investigated, if still an issue.

Greece is not the best criterion, but so far, the 4x4 2.0LT tdi version, has shown no malfunction...8 months, 19.000 km...although to be honest, I am not accustomed to it much, so it has been used have of the time...
