Advise needed - bumper damaged and how to claim

Featured Replies

I came home the other day after a day out to discover my car had been bumped while parked out side my house. The damage has been done to the front drivers side bumper and has scuffed all the bumper, broken the fog light mounting bracket and popped the grill out from around the foglight.

I knew instantly who the damage had been done by and after speaking to a neigboure they confirmed it.

It was done by a large van which had been parked at the side of me and had caught it (probably un aware) as it pulled out.

I waithed until the next morning, photographed both my car and the van showing the damage and then confronted the owner who was also a neigboure.

Initially it was denied that he could have done it and he even moved hiv van alongside my car still claiming it couldnt have been him even though it was clear the marks lined up and the majority of the damage had been done by his risty hub cap along the lower part of the bumper. Eventually after a fiar discussion he agreed to pay for the damage nad appologised but said he didnt want to go through the insurance.

i expected the cost of repairs to be around

My honest advice, after the hassle I've been through over the past 5/6 weeks in getting my car repaired due to a similar incident to yours, is that if you can afford to pay for it your self, or get the other party to pay for the majority of the damage, then just sort and don't involve insurance companies... they are a nightmare and will do any thing to drag the whole process out as long as possible.
