Looking for help with Octavia AFS headlights, West Lothian, Scotland

Featured Replies

Hi, I’m looking for help from VCDS or OBDeleven community in the central belt of Scotland.

I have a late 2009 (probably 2010 model) 2.0TDi Octavia Laurin and Klement with AFS headlights, late last summer I took the headlights out to polish them, they were scratched and starting to cloud, and also to spray lacquer on the front bumper as it was starting to peel off.

In the early winter I was driving through the night to Manchester and kept getting flashed, I don’t do a lot of night driving so had never noticed before. When home I checked the lights and they are sitting up in the units. See attached photos.

After much searching on the internet, I have come the conclusion that when I have had the headlights out, somehow the base position for the lights has been reset, my driveway is on a slope, so sounds logical.

Here is what I know and what I’ve done so far.

When up against my garage door the headlights are up (well above bonnet height, my wife’s Superb’s lights sit about level with the bonnet, also with AFS).

Lights do the dance when you switch them on.

No faults showing. I have a simple isoftVDAWS reader, so can see faults and clear them but nothing more complicated.

Checked front and rear suspension sensors, rear replaced, was seized on bottom ball joint, front replaced although unit was fine after being replaced 3 years ago due to broken swivel arm. Front had also been replaced around 12 years ago.

So, after searching the internet it looks like you have to park the car on level ground with ¾ tank of fuel, a driver in the front and reset using VCDS or OBDeleven. Hence my request for owners, who I’m more than happy to pay to resolve this problem.

Funny thing about all this is the car passed its MoT test late last year!!!
