Activating second key

Featured Replies

I've had a 2005 Octavia Estate and have just had to dispose of it after 241,000 miles.

I've replaced it with a Octavia 1.5 2023 Estate with 128,000 miles on the clock.

The Car warehouse place I bought it from only provides one working key, but there was another in the pack that doesn't work with the car.

As the actual physical key in this second key doesn't actually match the on what works and that the Skoda logo is missing from the second key I have strong suspicions that this key has never worked with this car!

I've tried various hacks from YouTube videos, but with no success.

Is this a lost cause and I'll need to buy a new key or should it be possible to make it work with my car?

Just realised this has gone in the wrong forum. I cannot see a way of deleting it.

My apologies.

Thanks. I assume my local garage (not a dealership) won't have access to Geko?

probably not , better visit official skoda service

I suggest you take the V5C or proof or purchase just in case they need to verify it.

It's no longer as easy to program the key to the vehicle as it used to be. Since the introduction of the MQB platform, the vehicle identification number (VIN) is stored on the key. This means that only the authorized dealership's ODIS online system can program the key, as it relates to the vehicle's immobilizer, which, simply put, also contains the vehicle's signature. When a new key is ordered, the software at the factory writes exactly the same information onto the key as when the vehicle left the factory.

The remote control can now only be programmed via the immobilizer procedure.
