Front Grille - replace with mesh?

Featured Replies

This is a question for those of you who've taken apart the front grille - would it be possible to remove the vertical slats from the standard grille and insert a piece of metal mesh?

And make it look nice with no edges showing :)

The reason I ask is that the local boy racer shop (Super Cheap Auto!) sells chunks of mesh, already coated black, that match the Milotec lower grilles I have, for about $30 (a tenner).

I found this with a search:

which helps, but it's hard to see how many pieces the grille is made up of.

check out Stu's page for a great step-by-step with pics : fabia-vrs.com

I've taken apart the front grille to paint the surround. It should be pretty straightforward to do what you're planning. Just go slow and careful - the unclipping is a bit of a bear - you have to use "careful force" to open it up.

IIRC the pieces, I believe you would need to cut out the slats with a dremel - they're part of a bigger piece.

A bodyshop man should be able to do a neat job of fitting in the mesh anchored in from the inside- you need an opening for the hood release though.

The car looks kinda weird without the grille for a few days as you work on it tho'!

Good luck!!!

Cheers

I wonder if it'd work properly - I could do with a spare grille to try out on in case it looks rubbish!
