TUNIT Query. Any Ideas?

Featured Replies

I have an 06 vRS Furby with a TUNIT box fitted, switched to setting 2 out of the 9 available.

Everything else on the car is standard and I'm generally pleased with the improvements in torque.

However, when I put my foot down in 2nd the revs rise to just over 2500rpm and then there is a sudden drop off, like something has killed the power. It only occurs in 2nd. Put your foot down in 4th it pulls like a train round to 3500 without drop off.

Wondered if this is normal before I approach TUNIT and possibly look like a plank. Has happened since I installed and always thought it was as a result of the nature of the box but now I'm not sure.

Thanx.

First thing to do is check the hoses and connections on the turbo's pipes and around the intercooler etc.

Although a tuning box doesn't directly increase boost, 2500 is just after max torque so the turbo boost will be increased indirectly through the sheer volume of exhaust gasses on a modified engine.

Once you have checked this then I would give tunit a ring as they may be able to shed some light on it as they will have had much experience of PD TDIs. May be an electrical glitch with the unit. Easily checked by disconnecting it and trying the same sort of acceleration that causes the fault with the tunit plugged in.

Thanks for that, Andy.

Suffice as to say it doesn't do it with it disconnected.

All hoses and pipes etc are free from defects as far as I can see.

Could be electrical glitch with TUNIT box as you say.

odd that it only does it in 2nd gear , surely if would do it in any gear at that particular rev point , the box only plugs into the big plug on the head iirc so is only interupting the injectors ?

I would say that if there was a problem with the Tunit box it would occur at the same rev in all the gears.

Could be worth getting things checked over
