OTA updates or the impossibility thereof

I keep receiving notices that updates are available, but only when driving and usually within about half mile of home. However, the road is a busy one and there are no areas where you can pull off other than field gateways. When I get home and park the car with the ignition on or engine running, more or less opposite where the router is in the house, I don't get any notices!

I can have these updates installed by a dealer, but the last time I did this it cost £145!

Any advice to solve these problems would be appreciated.
