Fabia ECU kit

Featured Replies

Greetings to all and 👋

I own a 2003 Skoda fabia 1.4 16v with the BBZ engine manual gearbox

I'm also new to this community,oh and I live in Barbados

I purchased this car 3 years ago, thus is my 2nd fabia, the first being a 2005 model with the said BBZ engine, at present here at home in Barbados there's no longer any representation for Skoda the last set of cars was 2005 both for the Octavia and the fabias, anyhow we move onwards, when I first got it I couldn't understand why on cold start idle it would tremble before smoothening out as the engine reached temperature, earlier this year I took it to get a kube service and change some hardware EGR valve namely, during the scan this code came up "TCM" we figured out that the computer in the car was not the original one and that it was for the automatic version of a similar model I have 2 keys and could not at first figure out why, let's fast forward, found out a few weeks ago as I attended another technician to have a manual computer installed which I am in the process of returning because it's not coding that the second key which is the driving key is part of an ECU kit ( new to me )

The car idles poor, runs very rich underperforms and I do not think the EGR valve works either as a result of this faulty marriage

I started a search for said ECU kits online found a site in Lithuania but they do not ship outside of the European union also tried eBay (us) nothing as yet

Can anyone provide me with the appropriate guidance please,

I know the potential of these cars, and I appreciate them very much just want to get normalcy so I can move on to do other things

I await your kind response

If it is an auto ecu in a manual then someone has already cloned ecu/copied imobilser data etc to it as car starts and runs. I read using VCDS you can change settings in ECU from auto to manual but have no idea how to. Found this on rosstech for a jetta. https://forums.ross-tech.com/index.php?threads/20338/

Hello there sir, thanks for reaching out and offering help, I'll pursue the link see what happens and send subsequent info to my technician in addition, my concerns are that the car dies not want to climb small inclines, much less hills, also since my car is the 74 kw version I'm uncertain regarding whether or not this Auto ECU came from a 74kw fabia the fact that it's searching for the TCM (transmission control module) on scan tool says a lot about my current issues despite immobilizer data having been copied, but for a certainty I'll check the link you shared, see where it leads and share results

Thanks a million Alasdair1👍

Sorry did I forget to mention that at this very moment i bought a manual computer from someone here at home who purchased it from somewhere in Europe for his fabia even though his ECU was not the problem and when the technician attempted to code it ( for my car) by changing the values/code, think it was 00071 or 73 it changed back, by the way it's a magneti marelli, heard from more than one person that this particular brand is not the friendliest

They preference is Siemens or Bosch which some fabias came with mind you, mine unfortunately did not

In the mean time and in between time can anyone or does anyone know how I might be able to find the manual ECU kit for my car, namely computer, instrument cluster and key barrel please

Thanks in advance

Not sure as your in barbados. I assume the carriage would be expensive if getting it from Europe etc. Are there any scrapyards/autobreakers on the island or on other islands nearer. Think its your best hope. Did read that magneti marelli are not easy and are either auto or manual so dont have all the software to do both hence why the changes revert. Hope you find a solution. Did find a large car breaker in uk that sends international but whether Barbados?? There called Charles Trent https://www.trents.co.uk/#/

Hello again there good sir, thanks in advance, even though there are a few few fabias that has been scrapped I'm doubtful about he working condition of the climate control, but I'll check, I'll also check out your link, I have someone in England who cones home yearly for their holiday 👍👍

Tell me something else sometime ago I emailed Skoda parts located in the Czech republic regarding a replacement ECU and was told that Skoda no longer makes replacement ecu's for our mk1's

But would that also include climate control units?? So it would appear that their inventory retains certain parts and discontinued others, oh dear.🤔🤔

Think he said as of 2020/21

Also I was told by another technician here at home that you can purchase and graded flash file for our cars, can this be confirmed, and that the flash can be done remotely via a special data cable??

I thought I read that somewhere on the web, "said software offering a little over 20hp plus torque"

If you mean this by climate control unit

SKODA FABIA MK1 6Y (99-06) AIR CON HEATER CLIMATE CONTROL SWITCH 6Y0820045C - Picture 1 of 2

Have seen quite a few on ebay for aprox £30-£50 but quite a few are in Lithuania etc. There are a few different parts numbers/designs depending on age of car. Depending on whats wrong with yours it may be repairable?

Not sure re flash file. Did read that it may be possible to wipe ECU and reprogram but have no idea what is involved. I read it requires a specific file to suit ECU part number.

I use https://www.lllparts.co.uk/ They have original manufacturer diagrams and its possible to search original part numbers with VIN.

Engine Software Upgrades (ECU Remaps)

If you are looking to increase power, torque, or throttle response, specialized automotive tuning companies offer OBD-port or bench-flashed software upgrades:

  • Revo Stage 1 Software: Available for various Fabia Mk1 engine variants (such as the 1.9 TDI PD), safely increasing horsepower and torque while retaining factory safety mechanisms. It can include switchable modes (via an SPS device). [1, 2]

  • Celtic Tuning / Awesome GTI Remaps: Custom-developed rolling-road or OBD remaps are available for engines like the 1.9 TDI (e.g., 100 bhp, 115 bhp, or the vRS 130 bhp models), optimizing torque curves and fuel efficiency. [1, 2, 3]

Diagnostic and Module Software

  • VCDS / VAG-COM: If you want to update or modify module coding, clear fault codes, or adapt keys (such as remote central locking keys), you use diagnostic software like VCDS (Ross-Tech) via a KKL/OBD-II cable rather than a generic CAN-bus reader, as the Mk1 Fabia uses older VAG diagnostic protocols. Hello there alasdair your info is right in the money:

My research did lead me to eBay motors, in addition it's funny that you should mention a possible repair for my CC unit, i thought about that, will do an Ai search and see what YouTube offers, if it works out we may very well have struck goal for the fabia community. Om my unit the recirculation button on the left in the pic you unloaded flickers on and off, most of the time I get nothing, once that remains off outside air comes into the car along with other odors like vehicle exhaust for e.g, also with this, the cabin does not cool as it's suppose to and it does not matter how many times I press that button alasdair, I get nothing. I'm currently checking a lady here at home that I came into contact with almost 2 yeas ago, she has a fabia, appears to be abandoned by now so will see where her head space is and proceed accordingly.

You may have recalled an earlier part of the conversation where I mentioned about an ongoing issues with the ECU (marriage), what I forgot to mention is this:

On quite a number of occasions whilst driving and attempting to squeeze some engine revs, the computer would not allow me to rev pass 3000 rpm, it would slap the rev counter back to 0 and when I attempted to try to maintain that figure, it would kill the rev counter all together, strange behaviour that.

I would have to switch off the car and allow things to reset.

I Mentioned this because you had said that the immobilizer data was copied etc etc, I'm thinking with firmness that the marriage is not rock solid, it's so bad that the car idles weak, runs very rich which in turn us fouling my spark plugs amongst many other performance /normalcy issues,so I'm starting with the ECU kit, if the flash is more attainable that would be even more awesome, we shall see

I may be wrong but read that if an auto ecu is used it looks for live data from auto box. As yours is a manual it sounds like its dropping into limp mode when it doesnt recieve it.

I found this on AI which I generally dont trust but it makes a bit of sense. Well above my expertise level though. The security login to ecu may help??

On the Skoda Fabia Mk1 1.4 (Magneti Marelli 4LV / 4MV ECU), you cannot simply recode an automatic engine ECU to manual via standard software coding (like VCDS / VAG-COM). The ECU software is flash-locked by the factory specifically to the transmission type it was built for, causing it to reject manual transmission coding strings natively. [1, 2, 3]

To fix this and stop the ECU from looking for the missing Transmission Control Module (TCM), choose one of the following paths:

1. Flash the ECU Firmware (EEPROM/Flash Edit)

The factory automatic dataset does not contain the manual maps/blocks. To override this, a chiptuning or ECU cloning specialist must read the ECU on a bench using a bootloader or OBD tool (such as FoxFlash or KESS) and write a full flash and EEPROM backup file from a factory manual car with the exact same engine code (e.g., AUA, BBY, BBZ). [1, 2, 3]

  • Note: Reflashing the ECU will alter the internal immobilizer data, meaning you will also need an Immobilizer Off (Immo Off) patch or to manually adapt the keys/cluster. [1, 2]

2. Swap to a Factory Manual ECU

The simplest physical workaround is to source a used Magneti Marelli ECU pulled directly from a donor manual car. Ensure the VAG part number matches your engine variant. You will need to extract the PIN code from the replacement ECU to align it to your instrument cluster and keys, or have it delivered with the immobilizer disabled. [1, 2, 3]

3. Check the CAN Gateway & Interlocking Modules

If you have already altered the ECU code at a hardware level but your coding is still rejected, other modules are likely blocking the change. VAG ECUs look at the CAN Gateway during coding verification. [1]

  • Recode Module 19 (CAN Gateway): Open the CAN Gateway profile, look at the installation list, and uncheck/remove the Automatic Transmission (Module 02).

  • Clear Fault Codes First: The ECU will refuse a coding adaptation if active "No Communication with TCM" codes are locked into other systems. Erase fault codes completely in ABS (03) and Instruments (17) before attempting to change the engine coding. [1, 2]

  • Login Code Requirement: Some Marelli 4LV units require a security login string (such as 01283 or 11463) under Login - 11 before they unlock the Coding - 07 permission window. [1, 2]
