Dipping Near-Side Mirror - Not!

Featured Replies

When we got our L&L Octy 2, with the remote mirror control set to left mirror adjustment and the gear lever set to reverse, the near-side mirror would swivel down to show you the kerb, then revert to normal once you accelerated to 15 kph.

Now it doesn't. Have I inadvertently shut off this quite useful function? And, if so, how do I get it back? As it's software controlled, I find it hard to believe it's a mechanical problem. Any advice gratefully received!

I'd be interested to knowhow to turn this on - my new Elegance doesn't seem to angle the passenger mirror down.

Does your elegance have electric seats?

No, it doesn't.

Our Octy does have electric seats - and it's supposed to work with them. Well, it did, of course!

No, it doesn't.

Then it wont have the dipping mirror function.

Check the manual, pretty sure it has instructions on how to set it on the L+K.

Oh okay - thanks!!

If you look at the electric mirror control on the drivers door and turn that so that it is set on the near side mirror and leave it there, that should do it. That's how it works on the superb so i assume that's how it works on the octy.

Nope - it doesn't . But it did!

Is it broken? The new Ocky does develop faults.

Double check that you have the mirror knobby switch thing set for the passenger mirror...

Cracked it! You have to set the near-side mirror if you want it to to dip and show you the kerb - while stationary, select reverse, use the remote to steer the near-side mirror down as far as you want it, then simply drive away (forward, of course). When you get to 15 kph the mirror will return to its usual setting, and the next time you select reverse it will dip down to show you the kerb as you set it.

Nice if this was explained in the handbook....

Yeah, it's not that clear that after setting the dippy mirror you have to keep the knobby switch set for L (or where ever your passenger side is!) If you stick it to any of the other positions then the dipping doesn't work.

so lets make sure i get this, you have to dip it yourself, then when you drive off it puts it back to normal?

I assumed it was an automatic dip, bit it doesnt work on my Octavia Eleganvce anyway!

He he, looks like we are as confusing as the manual!

First make sure the option on the MFD is set.

Then to set the dippy mirror, you stick the car in reverse, select the passenger mirror and adjust it to where you want it (like looking at the rear wheel etc).

Go forwards and the mirror returns to it's normal position,.

Next time you stick the car into reverse AND as long as the mirror **** is set for the passenger side, the mirror dips to the position you set.

This means that with the mirror **** in any other position it stays in the normal rear view position, but if pass mirror is selected, then it dips for you.

Any clearer than mud now ?

Pesky swear-filter !!!

You can't use the word **** like gearknob, or controlknob. Not ideal for automotive descriptions ;)

So in the above message **** = kn0b

Is this facility available on any other model?

I have the 2.0L 4x4 with many extras, but I do not recall that one being available, but it is mentioned in the manual?

Your answer was clearer than mud but not idiot proof!

Only with leccy seats

Thanks Stumpy...
