So, what is the best performance air filter for a VRS?

Featured Replies

The missus car has a AMD remap, but I want to add a replacement panel filter too, especially as it doesn't seem to have quite the same grunt as when the ecu was done. I was going to get a K&N, but Jabba mention that oil based filters can mess up the MAF sensor.

Any ideas, guys?

Get a Green Panel Filter. Many people here have them without any MAF problems at all

If grunt has dropped since the remap then that shows the filter has partially blocked and reduced airflow. As such the cheapest way to get the grunt back is to put in a new paper element. Also it's worth considering that all cars will be slower in warm weather than cooler conditions.

Of course, Craig - I'm used to turbocharged cars.

Grunt has definately slowly reduced since remap and the car does a lot of miles - 25,000 in just under a year. So, I am assuming it's the filter. It's still hardly slow, but I notice it.

So, is it worth changing for an aftermarket item and is the green panel filter washable like K&N, ITG's etc?

MAF failure from oil contamination is normally down to the washable filter being over-oiled.

Get a Pipercross panel filter as they run dry on MAF-sensitive VAG engines.

Thanks for that. I seem to recall I have a Pipercross on the 1.8t VAG engine in the Elise.

I have run a Green for 20k and it's been great.

If your performance has dropped recently you alos might want to check your fuel filter.

I hope it's had a few cleans in those 20k - IIRC, Green themselves quote 5,000k between service intervals.

Yep. I clean it every month give or take a week.
