Brake dust and noise

Featured Replies

06 Estate 1.4l 16v

My front disks seem noisy while braking. I'm not sure if its me but I think their getting louder. Its a metal on metal sound, not necesarily a grinding sound, per se, rather like the sound a pad makes when the wear material is gone and its down to the rivets against the disk.

Visually there is nothing wrong.

However, there seems to be really excessive brake dust. After 150km (5 days of driving) of driving the wheels are disgustingly dirty. The dust deposits aren't uniform like on any of my older cars, rather it looks like blotches at first as if goop or powder fell off the pad and stuck to the wheel. I now wash the wheels all the time, even in between normal weekly washes.

Is this normal for a Fabia?

Thanks,

NR

i have a similar problem, i believe its due to the dry weather so none of the dust gets removed as you drive

I've not got the same problem on mine, and if I did I'd be making use of the warranty to get it checked over personally. Im no good with this mechanic stuff though :)

Thanks for the replies.

I decided to spray water into the wheel on the brake disk and caliper. It seems to have greatly reduced the noise. I guess it is just like Danger Mouse said - dry weather. I imagine too that the static enegry in the air in a dry climate probably bonds particulates to metal more so than in a wet climate as well.
