S-Max MPG? Anyone?

Featured Replies

Looking for first hand knowledge:

My bro is gonna get one and needs to weigh up pros and cons of engines.

2.0 petrol too sluggish

2.0 diesel - good

2.5 (ST) petrol - great but

Dunno tbh, but I'm looking at the 140 diesel at the mo in Zetec trim - seems to do all I want at about the 20k mark.

Be interested to see the "real" figures myself.....

Is the 140bhp diesel in use elsewhere? AFAIK, the Focus C-Max has the 136bhp engine and the Mondeo offers the 130bhp. Or am I out of touch

I'd imagine around 40mpg is achieveable for normal "making progressive" driving. :D

Anyone driven the ST focus?

As it has same engine I presume MPG will be very similar - he is no boy racer (esp. as Swiss are so anti-cars) so normal driving MPG is what im looking for.

I can guess the diesel will similar to other, same output diesels?

Well the Big complaint from Focus ST drivers is the economy is very bad.. combined is only 27, but 22 is much more realistic apparently, some are even struggling to get that! so guess that rules out the 2.5t ;)

Yeah, anyone good at math?

My bro did small calculation - both over 12000 miles

diesel - say 40 mpg (300 gallons per year?)

petrol - say 22 mpg (545 gallons er year?)

what would be the price dif over the year? He thought £500

Heres my go -

say 99p per ltre

using 1 litre = .26 gallons

petrol - £2050 ish

diesel - £1153 ish

sound about right?

I have a spreadsheet to work this out for me :D

1 mile = 1 / 40 gallons

12k miles = 12000 / 40 gallons = 300 gallons used per year

There are 4.454l to a gallon so 1 gallon costs 4.454 * 0.99 = 4.41

Therefore cost of fuel per year is:

£1322.84 for the diesel

£2405.16 for the petrol

Hopefully....

Chris

1350 & 2454.54 respectively

((mileage/mpg)*4.54545454)*0.99

Try that on my 50-60k miles per year and you can probably guess why I drive a diesel - even though I think it is the devil's sputum :D

using 1 litre = .26 gallons

That's a US gallon. 1 litre = .22 UK gallons :D

i was using imp. gallon!

the 2 litre diesel has got to be the sensible choice ,i'm sure it will be the same engine that is in the C-MAX and new Focus , probably EURO4 emission compliant . this engine is totally different to the 2 litre one in the Mondeo though
