Featured Replies

my wife front pipe is cracked on the weld but just been on buts of bawtry site and they say i need a cat and front pipe for 250 ouch the car is not worth that as tax is up at end of mouth thats 175 tax and 250 for front pipe ouch ouch ouch ahd can i do

most decent garages will weld that back together for a few quid, failing that you could allways try a scrapyard for one.

Should be easy to weld up, POC.

If you can manage to take it off, maybe you can show up at some evening welding classes and ask if one of the students can weld it for practice.

Nothing to lose, and even a highschool student could grind the edges clean and stick weld it together (steel). (Cast Iron is a bit of a PITA, but it can be done after preheating and with the right special stick.)

I'd do it for you myself mate, but I'm a little far away at the moment!

Good luck

no, the front pipe is mild steel. only the manifold is cast iron

p.s..... swmbo's front pipe is allways leaking:) :)

That's what I assumed (mild steel).

It really is simple to weld mild steel pipe - all you need is a grinder and an AC Arc welder (stick welder).

Ask around, maybe someone can just weld it up for you.

mines a weld-up

the flexi is welded on as mine is the real early (non recalled) almost the polo exhaust. nothing between the flexi and rear supperts holding the thing up!!! result = TRACTOR noise. flexi then just could not flex and flopped. So it now bits of skoda and VW all welded up as I am missing the first set on down supports. Passed the french MOT no probs.

Mild steel is easy to weld, however rust isnt, just depends on whats left of it.
