Occy vRS to Clio

Featured Replies

Hey people,

Im basically looking to Part X my car within the month to purchase a 03-04 Renault Clio 1.2 Petrol or 1.5DCI, because im needing to get extra cash to save because i am hoping to purchase a flat within the next few months, and no way will i be able to afford to run the vRS, with petrol price inflation, insurance and with car tax going up and up.........

I have only had the car for about 5 months, but from day 1, i have never been happy with my car, not sure why, i went from a focus which i did like, but i wanted power. The vRS obviously does have the power BUT it lacks in alot of places compared to the focus, with the high milege it puts me off with the reliabilty which might change within a few months.

As i will have a new warranty with a Clio this will be a big peace of mind, and as my first car was a clio, which i loved, im sure i will be happy with another one again!

What sort of price do you think i might be getting on trade for my vRS, its 2003 on an 03 plate, in Black with 92000k on the clock.

Many Thanks, look forward to hearing some advice:thumbup:

lol thats one of the reasons why i wanna sell it with 92000K on the clock........ but

Obviously you have been happy with a Clio before but do you plan to do 34-35k miles a year in it like with the vRS. An 03 Clio could have 30k on it already so even if you only run it for 2 years it might have end up with 100k on it and be work very little. I'm not sure i'd be happy the clio will go the distance tbh. Why not go for 02 1.6 Focus. There may not be that much of a difference in fuel economy overall because the Clio will struggle and a Focus won't.

Ok.. well as this is a Skoda owners forum... how about a Fabia? :)

I bought the vRS with 86000k on the clock, because it was an ex rep car, so only do around 10-12k a year. I would go for a Fabia, but i just dont like the look of the car, so i would go for a Polo or Golf but they are just to expensive.

i doubt your car will break down in the next few months just because it has hit 92k.

and how long ago did you have a clio?? my first car was a 950cc fiesta which i loved and drove thousands of miles in it including london, cornwall, bournemouth, devon etc etc from oxford happily but would i be happy to do that now after having bigger, more comfortable cars? i doubt it.

you say you won't be able to afford to run the car with petrol prices but how much will you lose when selling the vRS and how much will it cost you to buy the clio? you could easily be looking at a 2-3k difference which in my mind buys a hell of a lot of fuel :)

Fair enough :-)

How about thing like a focus (already mentioned i know) or a fiesta? or a seat ibiza?

Nothing against the clio... i learnt to drive in one not so long ago :)

what do u think the vrs lacks compared to focus ? i owned a focus and cant really compare it to a vrs as i felt it drove terrible and was like sat in a plastic box .... but saying that i never had any luck with fords

my brother has a 99 T-reg 1.8 zetec with eibach springs, uprated exhaust manifold through to tail pipe. i find it way more enjoyable to drive than my octavia, handles nicer, sounds nicer and just feels more fun.

the interior is pretty much the same quality and its super reliable, the only maintainance we have done other than servicing is rear wheel bearings i tihnk so not bad in 3 years of ownership and now at 7 years old :)

One thing I would say is that beyond the initial depreciation, Clios hold their money well for some reason. Probably because they are a favourite with the first time driver.
