New boy with new Octy vRS.

Featured Replies

Now then.

Almost my 1st post...

Just picked up my new car last night (new to me but actually a 55 plate). Black with 2k miles on it. I hope it is half as good as my mk1 was!

Anyway, I'm sure these posts go up all the time so I'm sorry if I duplicate anything.

Basically so far it seems quite difficult to keep in a straight line on a motorway? Is this due to the 18" wheels or do you think I should get them to have a look? I just have to adjust the steering a little more than I'm used to.

Also, another dealer told me that RON95 was fine to use but the fuel filler cap has 98???? They do talk rubbish sometimes don't they?

Cheers.

Dickster.

Welcome mate to the forum.

First as regards to your steering - this was cover yesterday - someone was having the same issue....... have a search but i think this one should be looked at as mine doesnt do this at all.

Secondly as regards to the fuel...... if you put normal 95 ron fuel in your car, your knock sensor on the engine management lowers the perfomance of the car, so you wont be getting anywhere near the amount of horses you would on super unleaded.

i think most of the RS boys and girls use optimax, bp ultimate and a hand full use tesco 99 ron like me........ you can tell the difference in performance.

Hope this sort of answers your questions

Ah cheers for that.

Due to an 'oversight' the dealer forgot to give me any handbooks either (and I did ask for them only to be they were in the car) so I don't know much about anything yet!

I'll get it into my normal dealer to check over with the steering I reckon.

Plus you will get better economy with Super unleaded. I use Sainsbury's, it's only 97 rated but it's cheap (1 or 2p/litre premium) and I'm tight! The difference in performance is very noticable.

I haven't noticed any pulling and I have covered a lot of motorway miles already in mine.

I always, almost without exception use Optimax. Never 95 ron as the performance is not as good.

I tried 95 for a couple of tanks when I first had mine, I actually got better MPG as well as power from optimax virtually cancelling out the saving (well by a few pennies per litre)

Mine does Wander from time to time on the motorway, It could do with a proper 4 wheel alignment check I suppose. Will hassle the dealer for one when I have the time to drop it in.
