Removal of stereo from my vrs

Featured Replies

I have recently purchased a parrot handsfree kit, and need to wire it in, so i was wondering how i get the stereo out. Do they need special keys, or is there bolts/screws hidden somewhere. I'm sure somebody will be able to advise!!!

Any clue as to which vRS? :D

Sorry!!:o i was a bit tired when i posted this thread. I have the new shape 06 plate if that helps.

You need 2 'Keys', These slot in either side of the head unit, I made some out of straightend out picture hooks or you can buy from Halfords or a dealer.

Just fitted the Parrot to my VRS - works great.

Open the Ash tray and put your hand under the silver fasia - and pull it gently it should pop up - still attached at the top. Next remove the four clips covering the radio screws and then use a Torx 20 driver to remove the four screws. Pull the radio forward it will drop down slightly allowing you insert a flat bladed screw driver into the clips for the fasia and remove it completley.

Do not turn on the ignition with the radio removed as you can get an air bag warning light - trip to the dealer.

Hope that this helps - you will need a leads set to replace the parrot one if you not already got it!!

Thanks for that advice. are the leads that come with the parrot no good on there own or did i read it wrong??

The leads that come with the Parrot have ISO connectors on the end and the Stream Radio has the new MOST style connector - the guy whom supplied my Parrot all supplied a new set of leads which I used in place of the originals.

Would place like halfords, sell the cables or would the tinternet be best option, as i was thinking of fitting it at the weekend.

Not to sure on those cables - i bought mine from www.justcarkits.co.uk - spoke on the phone - told the guy what type of car etc - and the lead arrived the next day - there was a small problem though - the mute lead was in the wrong place - so moved it and hey presto - worked first time.

I've yet to fit my parrot, as i cant find a suitable place. The mounting bracket imo is near useless, just out of interest where did you fit yours??

Bought a mounting bracket with the kit - cut it in half as it was a bit big, and mounted the parrot to it. Fitted the bracket next to the controls for the air con passenger side - works fine.

I'm not having much luck here!!!!!! I have wired the parrot up but no cd changer. I took the stereo back out to look at the cabling only to find that my new harness dosent have a connector for the cd changer!!! VRSUSER, Did your harness kit come with an instruction sheet with the harness code on the top?? I got a sheet with a part number..VW02PAR on the top. It looks as if the harness is the wrong one, but there are no pics on the website to compare it to the other one.

If its the same as mine then you unplugged the most connector from the back of the stereo and plugged this into the new lead, and the other end into the stereo. There is no connection between the cd changer cable on the new lead, so you have to pop the cd changer cable out of the original most connector and then fit it in to the new connector at the stereo end - its the one on the bottom right if you have the stereo with the face towards you and top up. Hope this helps. Otherwise e-mail me your mobile number for help.

Just spotted this and think it answers a question I was about to ask...

The supplying dealer fitted a parrot kit to my Octy 4x4 when it was one of thier cars but when I bought it off them we found that that the CD changer wasn't working. Another dealer has since spent 4hours playing with new changers and taking the dash ad radio out etc. and has now concluded that it's a problem with the fitting of the parrot kit.

So... did this fix work and do you now have phone and cd changer working OK? Also, was it easy to pop out the cd chenger connector from the original plug?

Cheers:thumbup:
