Lost key = Lost

Featured Replies

I'm told that in order to get a new car key, I will have to take me +logbook + d/licence + £50 +vat (being £35 for the key and £15 to mobilise it for my car.)

Not to mention the cost of replacing other keys on the ring...

Handy tip - don't lose your key(s) :(

House insurance?

That's cheap for a key actually, I assume it's a non folding one.

Sounds cheap, I looked at getting a spare and I think it was about 130 - I didn't bother!

The folding ones cost twice that , so count yourself lucky

House insurance is really for a wipe out, it seems, as most claims are pointless given the excess, and seemingly one becomes uninsurable even from small claims (so I'm told).

If that's cheap though, I'll get one pronto, before it goes up  Thanks to you and Kandy.

I was quoted £96 for a non-folding remote key for the Polo, a bit of a bargain - relatively speaking!

to get a folding type key from the dealer is nearly £150 including making it work with you car. sounds like a good price mo :)

Thanks folks :) Mines not folding BTW, so probably as well LOL.

My new key aside, I mentioned the prices quoted on here for folding keys in case it was of interest to a BMW driving friend (as it certainly came as a shock to me). He asked whether I hadn't got an emergency plastic key

Some "posh" cars have a plastic key you can keep in your wallet etc. These become pretty useless after a dozen or so pushes in/out of the ignition though as they wear.
