lumpy tickover

Featured Replies

My Fabia 1.4 X reg 8 valve engine has a lumpy tickover. Is this normal or can I cure it. I also appear to have a slight coolant leak. Any idea of the cause. Do these engine have tappets to set ?

Cheers

Dave

Lumpy idle is normal, use the search option and you will find a long thread about it. The coolant use is apparently normal, mine was using a good bit but then it stopped.

Depends if the coolant is leaking or being used. And if it has the modified Temac head gasket fitted.

If you mean leaking as in leaking out onto the floor ... then it could be the aircon (if you have it)

Stick your finger in it ... if it tastes a little sweet then its coolant ... if it tastes like the inside of a tramps pants then its the water accumulated by the aircon...

No aircon and I get the odd little puddle on the floor. Sometimes the lumpy tickover causes the engine to cut out. As the engine is a bit old fashioned with push rods and timing chain is it neccessary to adjust tappets ? Anyone know what the plug gaps should be ? Don't think I will be tasting the spilled water, I'll stick to beer.
