Brake fluid change.

Featured Replies

Is changing the brake fluid an easy job? I seem to remember someone saying the Octavia needs to be bled from a particular caliper?

It needs to be done and a local garage will do it for

Get an Eezibleed - makes it all much easier. And if you're changing all the fluid, you'll have to bleed each caliper :D:D:D:D

1. Right rear caliper

2. Left rear caliper

3. Right front caliper

4. Left front caliper

and don't do what I did.. which was bleed the old fluid out, and then let air in.... pesky ABS unit :-(

How did you manage that?

Easy... I was being dopey!! On my previous cars without ABS, it did not matter if the air got in, as long as it was all bled out again (and ensured a total fluid change over). But the Octy with ABS seemed to keep a reserve of air in the ABS unit I could not bleed out - even when I tried the VAG-COM brake-bleed routine.

Oh and obviously there was old fluid in the clutch system as well.... so if u want to change that you will need to bleed that through as well...

I'm assuming/hoping the Haynes Manual covers bleeidng the system and what I need to do (if anything) about the ABS.

Haynes tells you what to do bleeding pattern depends on which ABS unit have fitted.... I think Mr Haynes advised not to let the system get air in it (and does not help you if you do....!)
