Kumho KU31 review

Featured Replies

Hi to All

Had an expensive day today. 4 new Kumho KU31s on the Fabia and 2 new Bridgestone RE040 on the MR2. Couldnt find a smiley for kick in the nuts.

Posted the Kumho review in the reviews section here:

So far so good.

Checking out the Bridgestones before they were fitted they have got to have the hardest sidewall of any road tyre I have used and this explains the hyperactive response and handling of the MR2. Shame they dont make them in Fabia vRS size.

Bridgestone RE040 ;) They're very nice towards the limit too, lots of feeling and they loose grip progressivly.

Hi to all

Added a bit more to the KU31 review now I have had a go in the wet and got some miles on 'em.

And the Bridgestones, I wanted to get them scrubbed in tonight, but no chance with it lashing down. Good tyres, very direct response to inputs, loads of grip and reasonably progressive. Snappy in the wet though.

Still recovering from:nutkick: but feeling it was worth it.

Hi to All

Just updated the KU31 review a little more info now they have settle down with 850 miles on them.

The Bridgestone RE040s have now scrubbed in nicely as well. When new, they made the MR2 rear end very edgy, but now it has all settle down, they seem very positive. Wet grip also impresses. Been trying to work up the bottle to get it sideways in the wet to see how progressive they are.

Nuts still smarting though.

Interestingly I always thought these were "budget" tyres as they were fitted to a lot of Scoobies on delivery. SO-2's/SO-3's were much better, imho :D

Chris

They're standard fitment on the Z too. However, not many people stick with them come change over time (probably about 4 months for the rears)

Hi Chris

I reckon it is a matter of what you fit them on. They are quite a stiff tyre, prone to tramlining and very good for direct and immediate steering response. The SO2 & 3 I found better if you want a more gentle response to small inputs and less edgy handling. I may try other tyres on the '2 but not sure what yet. Yoko Advan Neova LTS look favourite at the moment.

I'm thinking of getting a couple of Khumo's for my front tyres (rears are showing no wear at all) Can I fit 215/40/16 instead of the standard 205/45/16's??

Thanks Graham. Where did you get them? Cost?

£59 fitted and balanced from black circles

I approached my local Black circles back street fitter who said he can usually get them cheaper than them anyway, just looked at their website and I seem to have got a good deal!

£81.24 from them, saving £44.48 on the pair.
