Cant stop my rear wiper

Featured Replies

Hello,

I bought a Fabia 1.9 Sd yesterday, and have not yet been able to stop the rear wiper! I tried every position on the control during the journey back, but nothing stopped it. Any ideas/suggestions on how to stop this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Well, funnily enough, on the test drive, the guy had trouble tunring our off.

Make sure your right-hand stick is in the middle position. The easy way to test this is, pull it towards you, if it clicks before then moving and activating the front wiper, it was set in the 'on' position.

The easiest way is to follow these steps:

1) Pull the right-hand stick down to the floor as far as it will go then release

2) Pull the right-hand stick towards you to the furthest it will go then release

Done :)

Thanks toggle, it did the trick!

Although I would swear I tried every single possible position/combination yesterday!

wow..... I actually helped!! Im so happy :) heh

I have a mk1 octy vrs and this afternoon the rear wiper started going intermittantly as soon as I switched the ignition on.

All I did today was wash the car and move it in and out of the driveway a bit so we could get access to the other car easily for loading rubbish into the boot and each time the wiper went!

I took it for a run down the road (with it still going!) and toggled the stick all directions to prove it was definately in the off position to start with and eventually got it to quit.

It behaved for a while after then had a slight fit as I was turning a corner so I performed the same ritual again to stop it.

Is this a common fault (dodgy stalk?), I've only had the car just under two weeks and this is the first fault that's shown up.

I would suggest checking the wiring loom in the boot behind the left hand side carpet panel where it comes over the wheelarch as the washer pipe sometimes leaks and fills the wiring plug with water and corrodes the terminals, this can cause the wiper to operate on its own and can also affect central locking,it did it on my octavia and on my girlfriends seat arosa

Hi and thanks for the suggestions, I visited the dealer today and mentioned it.

Their response was to book it in for two weeks time so I'll let them look at it first.

I do feel it's switch related though as fiddling with that (the switch!) seems to stop it - happened again briefly on the way back from the dealers too.

I did install my cables and sub to the boot recently so I may check around there sometime but I'm aware of the common washer pipe problem and the washer is working fine so hopefully it's nothing to do with that!

Matt

Don't know about the Skoda stalk but my old merc started doing this a few months back, but on the front wiper. I prised off the end cap on the stalk and cleaned all the contacts on the combination switch inside. Works a treat now.
